Dearest Paraplu Fabriek.
In fact, the address mentoned on this paper is not in use anymore by me. Other people took over the place where I used to live and work, as I was able to purchase a small appartment behind the Zoo in Antwerp with a little help from my bank (it took my a long time to convince them to give me the money) The woman who lives in my previous studio kept nearly everything as I left it behind; The expensive wallpaper printed by Osborne and Little which i bought on Pimlico road in London (or was it Kingsroad?) the lamps and most of the furniture. So when you visit her, its like you visit the first european Robert Cash museum. She wouldn’t mind showing you around, indicating where I used to paint and where I used to cook, as I am a good cook and where I used to jerk (which is not true as I never jerk, tough I used to like it when I was a teenager). The new address is Van Geertstraat 56, 2018 Antwerp, but I will also indicate it on the enveloppe. As I told you, the new address is close to the Zoo and I even took a subscription to use the zoo as I shortcut comming from town, using the back-exit (watch out! it’s only an exit, sometimes it happens people go there with their children and the kids go though the backdoor without realizing there’s no return. Father or mother dashes behind them and to re-enter in order to join the other members of the family they are obliged to buy a brand new ticket. It’s not the end of the world, but they won’t be peased as the entrance is rather expensive) You should realy come over to go to the zoo overhere. At this moment there’s a baby Tapir. She was born on jan. 29th, two days before the birthday of your queen. Her name (the tapir, not the queen) is Indira. The parents are antracite and grey but the baby has not the same fur yet, which is meant for protection. Another animal for wich the Antwerp zoo is famous is the Okapi, some kind of mixture between a zebra and a giraffe.
I am wondering, and maybe you can tell me a little bit more about it, if it rains so much in Nijmegen that you have a para-pluie fabriek (factory) Para literary means 'against' like para-chute and chute is french for jump. I live in a bilangual country, so I need to speak french a lot, which is no problem, but what most people are not aware of that there’s a third official language in Belgium which is German. Maybe you heard about Eupen? Well, there you go!
They speak german overthere, but you might be able to communicate with the people overthere in french as well.
So ‘Pluie’ means ‘Rain’ which means you’ve got ‘ A FACTORY AGAINST THE RAIN’ Of course every living soul knows you make those utensils to protect you against the rain, or better you work in a place where they used to make those items.
NOW WE ARE GETTING TO THE POINT. You know, if you drive to Cologne by car, there's a factory which I call the ‘CLOUD-FACTORY’ (between Aix-la-Chapelle or Aachen and Cologne or Köln) so when I drive with people in a car, I always say: ‘look the cloudfactory, which makes them laugh, or remind them of similar associations they had in teir own childhood. What I actualy mean to say, is that we ae nearly in Cologne, which feels like comming home.
I think about drawing a lot, and as I have been in Chicago in October for an exhibition, and when I returned I needed to do all the renovations in my studio, I could not draw at all. But now I just needed to start out of impatienceness even my studio is not ready yet (still a lot of work to do) But blood is thicker then water

hi there, its me again
It gets darker in here and now the animals are getting noisy in the Zoo. I can hear them overhere right now when I'm writing to you.I was a little distracted and interupted a couple of times by the telephone which is not so nice, but would your realize you still exist if get a phone call? If nobody says I love you? Somebody even wrote me that 'I am sexy', can you believe it? I am 45! This drawing has not the right proportions, but you can see it on my website. I made it in Chicago @ Studio 207 on the wall. I think a lot about drawing; Where does a line start and where does it end a,d for what purpose? As there's no such thing as coincidence one has to have control of the drawing he makes. You can draw a (see drawing for the symbol)which everyone can recognize or can read; it's an oval they will say. Does a drawing needs to be legible? In my opinion (point de vue) WRITING = DRAWING. So if people complain out of interest or out of lazyness, they can not read my writing, then I realy don't care. They should give it a try for most people tink my writing is funny. In 2005 I had my first show in Chicago and the visitors said they thought my work was funny. The fact is , I had never been so serious in my entire life and that's the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth
Page 4 probably the last one for the time being
It gets darker in here. 'Ma chandelle is morte, je n'ai plus de feu' (that's true, I quit smoking 2 yrs ago)
Is a drawing an illustration to a text, or can a text illustrate the drawing? There are so many questions one could ask about this topic and I will make a notebook with the most frequent asked questions. (the shape of a shadow is no coincidence, it’s related to its object)
Last oct. when I was in Chicago, I took a day of and went to the museum of modern art. There was an exhibition of drawings of mailnly american artists, Gordon Matta Clarck for example. This was one of the greatest shows I ever saw. Why do I ike drawings so much? Well, there’s one major reason;’they tell you the truth’ A drawing is open, you can not hide yourself by all kinds of technics, it’s just the bold line. You, yourself and your skills. Look@ the old masters. How much more interesting are their studies in sanguine(red pencil) Look@Panamarenko, Look@AMVK, but there’s also younger talent, like Koenraed de Dobbelaere. There’s so much talent overhere...
That is of course the main reason of this letter. I suggest you give me the opportunity to curate a drawing exhibition in your art-space, or maybe I can just make a site specific installation which fits in one or another show you curate yourself. This involves, I make drawings on the walls which I decorate with my own home printed (I also have a factory) wall-paper
P.T.O.
I understand you sent me back the DVD, a year ago or so, as I think I did not make myself clear enough about the reason why I sent it. You could have kept the dvd for other purposes, borrow it to friends and rent if out to the rich and famous like I did with myself when I was young and georgeous in order to survive.
You had to pay the postman a lot of money to bring the dvd all the way back to belgium, but he’s honnest guy and he delivered the dvd in my mailbox. My friend in Cologne, who’s name is Uli complains a lot of mail is vanishing in germany nowadays.
“FRUHER WAR ALLES BESSER” I answered him(one needs a certain sence of humour to survive)
I made a drawing earlier today of a monument I saw cycling through Flanders. The monument was erected for a girl who died in the traffic on her way to school. The artificial flowers still looked fresh, but her face on the picture had completely faded away and only her dark hair was visible, like a wig or so.
Many many many people, who’ve been important to the parents, their lovers, their children and others have been totaly forgotten, nobody knows them anymore. Everybody who knew them died as well. That’s our desitny and that’s o.k. But let’s embrace them in our hearts
and warm their memories with our LOVE,
Kind Regards,
Robert Cash
